multiple courses, first impressions

By some stroke of insanity, I am not just here but also in two MOOCs, LAK11 and CCK11.  Neither, however. is as massive as PLENK2010. Good thing I did not sign up for any other EVO workshops

Adapted from a much longer blog post on Computers, Language, Writing.

Evomlit11 is my starting point for MOOC impressions and comparisons, despite lacking sufficient…

What is Technological Literacy?

inspired by Vasi's forum question...

PLN or facsimile thereof

Multiliteracies PLN in progress at http://www.netvibes.com/vanessa_vaile#Multiliteracies - not complete but at least underway. I added a note pad at the top of the page to make notes about what to add, changed both page title and community tab and added material to a few empty tabs while deleting others. Networks are like that: changing one strand or thread… Continue

Although more lurker than active participant, I'm already on a number of Ning networks ~ local, teaching, cultural ~ and even created a local one several years ago that did not take off and now languishes. I am impressed, nay gobsmacked, to see Ning improvements and upgrades. Time to think about using Ning more and perhaps even reviving my abandoned network

Thanks for dropping by Vanessa:)

Great to know you've lived in Alex. And Groppi? Do you mean the one in downtown in Cairo? I don't know of one in Alex... How did you like it there? Things have changed a lot... Getting more crowded than it was years ago. Hope you can come again one day... You're always welcome:)

Hi Vanessa, I'm sorry I didn't respond to this sooner. Sus Nyrop once called what we do here "chaos navigation" but then she changed it to "intuitive chaos navigation". That's right though, it's chaos, needs a bit of chaos theory to sort out. Chaos theory as I understand it means that there's a pattern to everything, just that some need supercomputers to discern. So there is a pattern and therefore if can be managed. I hope we're getting people here to think about ways of doing that :-)

"inuitive chaos navigation" ~ I like that. There's a spiffy title and job description (so much more interesting than Linked In's archaic standard fare) in there too: Chaos Navigator (season to taste by adding chief, head, co-, captain, etc).

The reference to patterns and supercomputers also sounds like moving into web 3.0 / Semantic Web territory here. I'd like to have a better handle on navigating 2.0 before (cyber)space docking. I am making progress, although the process is, at times, moving me on tracks occasionally tangential to those laid down in the syllabus.

Thing to remember about chaos is that no matter how daunting and overwhelming, it beats the alternative.... entropy.

Hi Vanessa
Thanks for your request. I have to admit I've neglected a bit evomlit this week...

Seeing snippets of your blog posts and discussion comments is making me feel more engaged already. Enticing snippets...will read your blog this weekend. Hope to see you tomorrow (morning for me :( ...) at Mark's chat.

CAN YOU HELP by any chance ?

see in the YG posted by Vance:  I just found out via twitter that George Siemens and Stephen Downes are in Elluminate RIGHT NOW. If you are able to get there, this is the address:
https://sas.elluminate.com/site/external/launch/meeting.jnlp?sid=2008104&password=M.EF62FFB8EBCFE57C07E6E572F7A0E9
It will be recorded, and they are talking about learning through MOOCS

I've looked and looked but I can't find the recording......
